Police urge caution near Arthur's Pass as search continues

2 min read

Christchurch Police searching for two absconded parolees and an associate are now confident the men are currently, or have recently been, in the Arthur's Pass area - and are warning members of the public to be cautious in the vicinity.

Detective Inspector Tom Fitzgerald says enquiries to date have led Police to believe the three missing men have been in the Arthur's Pass area. "Specifically we believe they may be in the area around Klondyke Corner - which is a popular location with hunters and trampers.

"We believe they may be sleeping rough, or in huts, and may have made preparations to remain in the bush for some time."

Detective Inspector Fitzgerald says that a vehicle of interest, a white Honda Civic owned by Jamie Campbell, was first seen in the area last Thursday morning, but it is possible the three men have been in the area since last Wednesday [8 November].

"We would urge members of the public to avoid that area if at all possible, and not to park vehicles at Klondyke Corner. Although we are not aware of any specific threat to the public, these are high-risk offenders and their behaviour may be unpredictable."

Police continue to urgently appeal for any information or sightings of the men since last Wednesday.

"If anyone has seen these men, or any other unusual activity, please contact Police urgently.

"It is possible that the men have been travelling in two vehicles. Details of the second vehicle at this stage are unknown."

Ivan Andrew Campbell, aged 46, and Jaydon Galland, aged 18, absconded from the Salisbury Foundation early on Wednesday morning [7 November].

Ivan Campbell is described as a Caucasian, 177cm (approx 5ft 10in) tall, and of medium-thin build. He has extensive tattoos on his face, neck, and arms. Galland is described as Caucasian, 177cm (approx 5ft 10in) tall, of medium build, with tattoos on his neck.

Their associate goes by the name of Jamie Campbell, also known as Alexander Paul Jones. He is 25 years old and is described as a male Caucasian, tall, of slim to medium build with dark hair and a beard.

Any sightings of the men should be reported urgently to Police by phoning 111, or Christchurch police on (03) 3637400. Alternatively, to provide information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
