On behalf of the King family, news organisations are advised there will be limited media access inside St Paul’s for Mr King’s funeral service at 11am on Friday.
The family appreciates that while there is significant media interest, this must be balanced against their right to grieve without undue intrusion.
Due to the large numbers of mourners expected, arrangements have been made for a limited number of media organisations representing television, radio and print media to attend the service.
Selected television, print and radio media will pool their visual and audio coverage and make it available to other media organisations on request. Other media need to make their own arrangements to secure pool coverage.
Those media to attend the service are:
• TVNZ (to provide pool footage)
• Radio Live (to provide pool audio)
• Fairfax (to provide pool photography)
• APNZ.
There is to be no other photography inside the church during the service.
As a condition of gaining access to the pool footage, the family has asked it not show the King children at the service, or if unavoidable, that that their faces be blurred, while no close-ups of Mrs Milnes-King and Mr King’s parents are to be taken.
Family have also requested that file footage of the children not be used during coverage on the day.
Other media are asked to remain outside the church and maintain a respectful distance. Any photographs should be taken from a discreet distance, with no images of the King children to be taken.
Note that Mrs Milnes-King and immediate family members will be making no comment to media on the day, and ask that no requests are made.
The service is to be followed by a family gathering and then a private cremation ceremony. Media are not invited and are asked that no photographs or footage is taken of these events.
