Police are appealing for assistance from the public to help locate a 67-year old man missing from Christchurch since yesterday.

The man, Lawrence O'Connell, lives in Rangiora but was visiting The Palms mall in Marshland Road, Shirley, with his wife yesterday [Tuesday] afternoon when he went missing.

Senior Constable Anna Stenhouse, of Rangiora Police, says Police have some concerns for Mr O'Connell's wellbeing.

He suffers from a brain injury as a result of a stroke, and requires daily medication.

"At the time he went missing he was only lightly clad, and weather conditions have been cold overnight.

"He may still be in the Christchurch area, or he may have been walking towards Rangiora."

Senior Constable Stenhouse says Mr O'Connell was in an agitated state at the time he is believed to have left The Palms on foot.

Mr O'Connell is described as Caucasian, 1.5 metres (5 ft 9in) tall, of average build and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black trackpants, navy vest, blue sweatshirt with grey sleeves, and black shoes.

"We are anxious to hear from anyone who has seen Mr O'Connell, or who has information on his whereabouts, as urgently as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Christchurch Police on (03) 3637400 or Rangiora Police (03) 3136167.
