Detectives investigating a suspicious fire that seriously damaged a patrol car parked at the East Hamilton Police Station on Sunday 21 October are asking for witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Shelly Begbie of the Hamilton CIB said emergency services were called to the fire in the car park of the Clyde St station about 8.15pm and arrived to find the car well ablaze.
"A side window of the car was smashed and a forensic examination carried out by our staff and the Fire Service has shown an accelerant was used to ignite the fire.
"Prompt calls from the public to the 111 service allowed fire-fighters to contain the blaze to the one vehicle, keeping the damage to a minimum."
Ms Begbie said a number of people present at the scene had been spoken to by Police as had a man who captured footage of the fire and uploaded it to Youtube.
"That man has been cooperative with Police and we don't believe he was involved with the fire.
"A number of people we have interviewed described an older four-door white car being in the area about the time of the fire and we would like to speak to anyone who saw a car matching this description or who has information on who may have been responsible for the fire."
