A 25-year-old Wairarapa woman is in the Burwood spinal unit after an incident at Mauriceville, north of Masterton last night.
It appeared the woman had fallen about 10m onto the ground from a rail bridge in the small settlement, Senior Sergeant Carolyn Watson of Masterton Police said.
Police were called to the incident about 6pm and provided immediate first aid to the woman. She was taken to Masterton hospital where she was assessed as having a broken back, before being flown to Burwood.
Police inquiries into the incident were continuing, Ms Watson said.
