The name of a woman killed when the car she was travelling as a passenger in collided with the rear of a truck's trailer on a rural Waikato highway on Friday has been released.
Waikato District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said the woman had been identified as 20-year-old Felicity Paige WREN of Dunedin.
"Miss WREN was travelling as a front seat passenger in a southbound Alfa Romeo car that collided into the rear of a slowing truck and trailer unit travelling in the same direction on SH27 near Morrinsville.
"The truck and trailer unit had slowed as it approached a school bus in it's lane that was slowing to turn right on to Otane Rd. Reports the car Miss WREN was travelling in was heading to Auckland are incorrect, all vehicles involved in the crash were heading south when it happened."
The driver of the car involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance and later discharged.
Mr Tooman said she and the male driver of the truck were understandably upset by what had happened and would be interviewed by Police later this week.
"Friday's tragedy appears to be a classic example of the need for drivers to be conscious of larger vehicles that may be travelling in front of them and the possibility these vehicles may be travelling at lower speeds.
"Driving to the conditions is not just about being aware of weather and climate but all your surroundings while out on the road and remember, if those conditions change- reduce your speed."
