Motueka Police are seeking information from the public in relation to an incident in the town shortly after midnight last night in which a woman has reported being abducted and sexually assaulted.
The woman was walking home about 12.15am today along High Street, Motueka, after socialising at a bar.
As she neared the intersection of Lowe and High Streets she was approached by a man driving a white four door sedan. She described the car as "square shaped".
The man told her he was lost and asked for directions. He appeared confused and asked her to get into the passenger seat to show him where to go.
The woman agreed to do this. When she got into the car she said the man attacked her, forced something over her face and then tried to take her clothes off.
They ended up at Wharf Road, Motueka, at the south end of High Street. There the woman managed to fight off the driver and fled. The car drove off and was last seen heading towards Mariri.
The woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
The driver of the car was described as in his late 30s or 40s with straggly brown hair. He was wearing a brown jacket.
Motueka Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle in or around Motueka last night, or anyone with information that may assist the investigation.
