At about 6.30am this morning there was a two car vehicle crash on State Highway 2, Nukuhou, between Whakatane and Opotiki.
Two male occupants of the eastbound car, one in his 30s and one in his lates teens, were deceased on arrival of emergency services.
The sole occupant of the westbound car, a man in his 30s from Opotiki, was airlifted to Tauranga Hospital where he is in a serious condition.
Police are working to identify those killed in the crash and then notifiy their families. An investigation is ongoing.
