A climber has been lifted off Mt Sebastopol, near Mt Cook, this afternoon after suffering moderate injuries in a fall.
The 21-year old climber, a New Zealand citizen from Christchurch, fell nine metres while rock climbing with one other person on the Mt Sebastopol bluffs, just south of Mt Cook Village.
He is reported to have suffered a dislocated shoulder, head injuries and other injuries. His condition is described as stable.
Emergency services were called at around 4.15 this afternoon. The climber has been airlifted off the mountain by the Helicopter Line, with the assistance of the DOC rescue team, and is being treated initially at the Mt Cook search and rescue base.
It is expected he will be transferred to Timaru Hospital this evening by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
