Christchurch Police are investigating the death of an eleven day old baby boy. The child died at Christchurch Women's Hospital late afternooon Monday 10 July.
Police are working closely with the hospital and the family of the infant. The death has been referred to the Coroner where the pregnancy, labour, birth and care will be examined.
Police are not seeking any witnesses regarding the investigation.
Police ask that the family be allowed to deal with the grieving process and it is anticipated that the name of the child may be released tomorrow.
