1 min read

Christchurch Police are appealing for witnesses to a hit-and-run incident in Phillipstown early this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 4.00am this morning [Saturday 12 May] at the corner of Tuam Street and Nursery Road.

Detective Sergeant Richard Quested says two male pedestrians were walking on Nursery Road towards Ferry Road. “One of the men was hit by a vehicle coming from behind them. The second man narrowly avoided being hit.

“One pedestrian suffered a fractured hip and was treated at Christchurch Hospital. He has since been discharged,” says Detective Sergeant Quested.

The car involved is described as a dark-coloured vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic or similar vehicle, with one occupant.

It was reported to have left the scene travelling south on Nursery Road towards Ferry Road, and may have turned left into St Asaph Street.

A wing mirror believed to be from the left hand side of the vehicle was found at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Quested says Police are asking anyone who was in the Nursery Road, Tuam Street or St Asaph Street area around 4.00am today, or who may have seen a dark-coloured vehicle with a missing left hand wing mirror, to contact Christchurch Police on (03) 3637400.
