Missing hunter Corey Foster will be facing his fifth night in the open and searchers have still found no sign of him. Search Controller Sergeant Peter Summerfield, says that the search continues but with weather closing in they have serious concerns for Corey's safety.
"It has swung round to the south and it is beginning to snow here at base at 720m," he says. "The main search area around the Avoca Valley is at 1000m and there is one search team at 1900 m above the snow line. It is very cold."
The volunteers from Land Search and Rescue today have come from South Canterbury, Rakaia, Arthurs Pass, Oxford, Christchurch, Methven and the Cliff Face Rescue team from Christchurch. Christchurch police staff and two police dog teams are still in the field. There are 28 searchers in the field today.
"We're still tasking in the and around the bush area around Avoca Hut, where he is most likely to be," says Peter Summerfield. "While Corey had good gear he was not prepared for a prolonged stay in the open, - we do have serious concerns for his well being."
