Commissioner commends staff in Christchurch incident

1 min read

Commissioner Peter Marshall has been closely following events in Christchurch today.

"It seems clear to me, on the information received so far, that the actions of the Police Officers in an extremely volatile and dangerous situation are to be absolutely admired. They ended the situation in an entirely appropriate manner. I commend them for their actions and professionalism under the most trying of circumstances.

"It is unfortunate that an individual has put the safety of members of the public at significant risk but I am thankful that the brave intervention by members of the public in conjunction with the actions of our staff brought the matter to as swift a resolution as possible without loss of life.

"Today's actions exemplify the spirit of New Zealand Police." said Mr Marshall.
