Police said that David Bain's successful application for bail is just part of the process that has ensued following the Privy Council's referral of the case to the New Zealand Courts for a retrial.
Any decision regarding a retrial rests with the Solicitor-General. Police will continue to evaluate the preparedness of witnesses and the state of the original evidence as part of that process.
