Body discovered near Chaffers Marina in Wellington

At midday on Sunday 15th of January a member of public called Wellington Police to report the discovery of a body in the area of the Chaffers Marina, near Te Papa. Detective Inspector Paul Basham says “We've cordoned the area and are in the initial stages of a scene examination. We're looking to recover the body, which appears to be lodged inside a stormwater culvert.” 
 
It is too early to speculate on the identity of the person or circumstances surrounding the death, however police are treating the incident as suspicious. No further details can be made available at the stage.
