1 min read

Around 1:30pm today a lone male robbed the BNZ Bank in Tawa Mall.

The man covered the front of his face with his black shirt, threatened the female teller with a pistol and robbed her of several thousand dollars (the amount will not be disclosed), says Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam of the Porirua Police.

"The man left the bank and walked south across the car park towards Oxford Terrace," says Detective Senior Sergeant Oxnam.

"He is described as a male Caucasian, around 6-foot tall, slim to medium build, wearing a multi-coloured beanie and a light coloured, possibly green jacket or windbreaker.

"The police are interested in any sightings of him either in or around Tawa Mall or entering or leaving the BNZ."

At this stage security camera footage is not available, but may become available tomorrow.

Witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact either Detective Senior Sergeant Mike OXNAM or Detective Sergeant Andrew SAUNDERS at the Porirua Police Station on Tel: 04 238 1400.
