Hamilton Police are hoping newly installed cameras will help identify the offenders in a cowardly attack on a City taxi driver.
City Deployment Manager, Inspector Karen Henrikson said the taxi driver was called to a job on Sunnyhills Ave in Glenview about 12.30am on Saturday 17 September.
"Two men got into the taxi van and asked to be taken into town but said they had no money.
"Our victim told them if they didn't have the means to pay for the fare he couldn't take them into the CBD, suddenly one of the men started assaulting the driver, punching him in the head and shoulders."
Ms Henrikson said the second man also attacked the driver before both men got out of the taxi and fled.
"We're hoping someone may recognise a rather distinctive tattoo on the left side of the neck of the first offender and contact us regarding his, or the other attacker's, identity.
"Offenders need to realise with technology constantly improving there is little chance crimes such as this will go unpunished and they will be held to account for their actions."
Anyone with information on the identity of the attackers is asked to contact Sergeant Neil Fenwick in the Hamilton Enquiries Section on 07 858 6200.
Alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
