Viaduct assault victim dies

Police can confirm that the 34 year-old man who was was assaulted outside Spy Bar in the Viaduct in the early hours of Friday morning died in hospital at approximately 5:30pm yesterday evening with his family at his bedside.

The Police investigation is now being treated as a homicide.

Three men have been charged with assault in relation to the incident, and one man also charged for possession of methamphetamine. All three men appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday afternoon. One of these men, a 31 year-old from Greenhithe, has been remanded in custody while the other two men have been bailed. No additional charges have been laid at this stage.

Police are still urgently appealing for information from members of the public who may have seen fighting outside Spy Bary at approximately 1:30am on Friday morning.
