Visitors to Palmerston North for this week's Rugby World Cup events are being reminded that the Manawatu Gorge is still closed due a major slip some weeks ago.
Anyone heading to Palmerston North from the East needs to take either the Saddle Road or the Pahiatua Track as alternatives to the Manawatu Gorge Road. Motorists should allow at least an extra 15 minutes on their travel time.
Senior Sergeant Phil Skoglund said: "Over the next five days Palmerston North is expecting some great weather, great rugby and great festivities. We don't want fans and tourists missing out on that because they don't allow extra time for the Manawatu Gorge detour, so spread the word to anyone who is heading this way and please drive carefully."
