At 10:29am a Police patrol car attempted to pull over a vehicle in Mangere after it was seen driving dangerously and negotiating a roundabout the wrong way.
The driver of the offending vehicle did not stop and Police pursued the vehicle for approximately one minute before it crashed into a van and then hit a power pole at the intersection of Massey Road and Walter Street.
The male driver of the offending vehicle ran from the scene and hitched a ride with a passing motorist before officers were able to catch up with him. A female passenger in the offending vehicle was taken to Middlemore Hospital with moderate injuries.
The male driver of the van hit by the car was taken to Middlemore hospital with minor injuries. Two passengers in the van escaped uninjured.
The Serious Crash Unit are at the scene and diversions are in place along Massey Road. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
