An 18-year-old South Auckland man has been charged in relation to threats made in a video posted on Youtube earlier this month.
The threats were made against the Government and included claims that explosives had been hidden in New Zealand Government buildings.
The video also said that Government and media websites would be hacked.
The threats were made in an apparent protest against the new Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Act .
The man has been charged with Threats of Harm to People/Property under the Crimes Act 1961 Section 307A(1)(b).
Acting Detective Inspector Pete Jones of Counties Manukau CIB says the investigation benefited from close cooperation between different areas of Police:
"Counties Manukau CIB and Wellington District were able to draw on the expertise of the National Cyber Crime Centre (NC3) and the Electronic Crime Laboratory to help us locate this individual.
"Such threats are taken very seriously by Police and this investigation demonstrates Police has the expertise and resources to trace those who make such threats on the internet."
The 18-year-old is due to appear in Manukau District court tomorrow.
