While a man at the centre of yesterdays' armed stand-off with Police recovers in hospital detectives are formulating what charges the man will face while other officers mount a guard at a second scene linked to the incident.
Detective Sergeant Carl Moon said the 42-year-old man was currently under Police guard in Waikato Hospital following his arrest at a MacDiarmid St in relation to a domestic violence incident that began on Tuesday.
"He will remain in custody in hospital until such time as he is well enough for charges to be laid and to attend court, at this time we are still determining what those charges will be.
"The property at the centre of yesterday's events was secured with scene guards overnight. A commercial site in Frankton, also identified as a location of interest, is under armed guard and will be subject to forensic examination today."
Mr Moon said the victim, in what was a very serious domestic violence incident, was interviewed by Police and provided assistance from Women's Refuge and Victim Support.
"As a clearer picture of what has occurred emerges the value of the wide range of tactical options available to Police becomes apparent.
"From voice appeals via the Police Negotiators through to armed officers and dogs a range of options were used to resolve this incident successfully, but the key message here is that before it gets to the stage where these resources are needed, people who find themselves the victims of domestic violence need to seek help."
