A car and four-wheel drive utility towing a trailer were involved in a head-on crash on State Highway One about 5km north of Oamaru at about 1pm today.
The sole male occupant of the utility vehicle and the man and woman in the car were taken by ambulance to Oamaru Hospital for assessment.
Police and emergency services attended and a crash investigator has been called in to examine the scene.
State Highway One has been closed and a five-minute detour is likely to be in place for the rest of the afternoon.
Oamaru Police would be interested to hear from anyone who might have observed the crash.
