Bomb scare on flight to Brisbane confirmed a hoax

1 min read

This evening Police received a report from a member of the public claiming that a male passenger would soon be boarding an Air New Zealand flight (NZ739) in Auckland, bound for Brisbane, with a bomb on his person.

By the time the gentleman was identified his flight had already departed.

Police, in conjunction with Auckland Airport and Air New Zealand determined a short time later that the call had not been credible and there was a low risk to passengers on board the flight.

The flight landed safely in Brisbane a few minutes after 5pm (Queensland time) and the gentleman is being spoken to by the Australian Federal Police.

NZ Police will be investigating the origins of the call and the caller could face charges for making a false statement to Police.
