Hamilton Police are hoping the thousands of race fans that turned out to enjoy the V8 Supercar racing in the City earlier in the year will able to act as their eyes and ears as they seek to locate a valuable car stolen this morning.
Constable Joe Pratt of the Hamilton Law Enforcement Team said Police were called to a Puketaha Rd address shortly after 10am after reports a home had been broken into.
"Thieves had broken into the house and stolen a silver metallic 1988 Holden SS Group A VL Walkinshaw Commodore sedan, this limited edition vehicle is considered quite rear and is serial number #728.
"The car has an estimated value of $70,000 and we believe it was specifically targeted by the thieves who used another vehicle to push start it and make off."
Mr Pratt said Police were interested to hear from anyone who had seen the stolen car, registration number VL HSV, or who had seen a white Subaru car in the area about the time of the theft.
"We would also like to hear from anyone offered such a vehicle for sale or even parts for one.
"Given Hamilton is the event capital of the country and so many people enjoyed watching the V8 racing we're hoping the extra sets of eyes and ears of race fans up and down the country will mean the thieves are left with no option other than to abandon it without any damage."
