KOREAN NATIONAL APPEARS IN COURT

A 43 year old male, a Korean national, has been remanded in custody after a Court appearance today on charges of murder, attempted murder,and arson.

The three charges arise from an incident on Saturday afternoon when a liquid accelerant was used to start a fire in a first floor dental surgery in the Henderson CBD.

A 41 year old Korean female died as a result of the blaze. Two men who were on the premises at time of the fire suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

The man entered no plea. He's been granted interim name suppression and will reappear again in the Waitakere District Court on Friday [9 February 2007].

Henderson Police say relatives of the deceased have all been notified. The deceased victim is a Korean national. She was:

Occupation - Dental Assistant

DOB - 15/04/1965 - Age 41 years

Resident of West Auckland

Police say it will be the end of week before all their enquiries are complete.

The body of the deceased is expected to be released for burial tomorrow.
