Surprise find by Auckland City burglary squad

1 min read

Class A drugs, a loaded firearm, stolen goods, stun guns and thousands of dollars in cash were recovered at an address in Manurewa this morning when the Auckland City Police Central Burglary Investigation Unit (BIU) executed search warrants.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Burke said two men - a 45 year-old and a 20 year-old - were arrested at the address and will appear in the Auckland District Court this afternoon to face a raft of charges, including possession for supply of the Class A drugs heroin and methamphetamine.

"It's unusual for us to find heroin these days, but the amount we recovered apparently has a street value of more than half a million dollars," Mr Burke said.

"What's alarming is that we also recovered a loaded .22 pistol fitted with a silencer, along with further ammunition. There was also $6,000 cash at the property and a range of other drugs - including ecstasy - and jewellry."

The BIU was acting on information and had expected to recover a range of goods stolen during burglaries throughout the city. While some property recovered appears to have been stolen, much of what the squad was looking for was not at the address.
