Shot fired during dispute

1 min read

An Upper Moutere man has been charged with firearms offences following an Armed Offenders Squad callout near Nelson today.

The incident started about 10pm yesterday when two people visited a Rosedale Road, Upper Moutere, address. A man at the address asked them to leave and then allegedly threatened them with a firearm, discharging the gun into the air. The people were all known to each other.

At that stage police were not called, however today the man’s neighbours reported receiving threatening phone calls from him and informed them of the events of the night before.

The Nelson Armed Offenders Squad executed a search warrant at the Rosedale Road house and arrested a man without incident at 3.45pm today.

He has been charged with firearms offences and will appear in the Nelson District Court on Tuesday. Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
