Full services have now been restored to Police Communications Centres and stations around the country following a failure on the FX voice and data network in Wellington earlier this afternoon.
The network failure caused Police Communications Centres to move to manual processing for some of its procedures.
However phone calls from the public to the 111 service were not impacted by the outage.
Superintendent Kelvin Powell, Acting National Manager Police Communications Centres says back-up procedures ensured there was no adverse impact for callers to Police.
"We have measures in place to deal with situations like this, and they worked well," he says.
The network affected approximately 130 police stations around the country, three communications centres and Police National Headquarters and was isolated to an exchange in Tawa, northern Wellington. The network was restored progressively into the early evening.
Superintendent Powell says Police will discuss the network failure with suppliers over the coming days.
