Police have named the Tapawera man who died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds early today.
He was Ian Boyd, aged 58 years.
Boyd had shot a 30 year-old relative in the upper body prior to shooting himself.
The 30 year-old man remains in Wellington Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
