Hamilton Police investigating the aggravated robbery of a cash-in-transit van in the north of the City are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said the crew of the van were confronted by two balaclava clad men outside the Westfield Shopping Centre in Chartwell at about 11.50am.

"One of the offenders was armed with a firearm and the other with a metal bar, they've approached the cash-in-transit van, threatened the security staff, and made off with a large sum of cash.

"Initial witness statements describe the offenders fleeing the scene in a green over silver Subaru station-wagon driven by a third offender on to Hukanui Rd."

Mr Thornton said Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the robbery, who hasn't already spoken to officers, to make contact with them.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who saw a vehicle matching the description of the offenders' car either before or after the robbery.

"Detectives are currently reviewing security camera footage from the area and speaking to the victims who were shaken but unhurt by their ordeal."

Anyone with any information on the incident or the identity of the offenders is asked to contact Mr Thornton at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively information can be left anonymously on the CrimeStoppers crimeline, 0800 555111.
