An 11 x year old boy is among several civilians who will be presented with Certificates of Appreciation at the annual Waitakere Police Awards in Henderson this afternoon.

Daniel King, a student at Rutherford Primary School in West Auckland provided police with vital information whereby the identity of three serious offenders was firmly established. As a result Police arrested and charged the three offenders for burglary.

Waitakere Police Area Commander Inspector Mark O'Connor says the young boy displayed remarkable maturity in the manner in which he assisted Police.

Two young men, a 17 x year old Waitakere High School student, and his 21 x year old brother in law, will receive Certificates of Appreciation for their courage in detaining a violent offender, after an elderly woman was attacked and assaulted in her home.

Police also acknowledge the efforts of another young man Steven Robinson who helped police struggling to arrest a violent offender. One officer was seriously assaulted during the arrest.

West Auckland identity Trish Maxwell is acknowledged for her lengthy community service and commitment to the success of Waitakere's Neighbourhood Support.

The Awards ceremony will be attended by Superintendent Viv Rickard, the recently appointed District Commander for Waitakere/North Shore/Rodney Police.
