Elderly Woman Sexually Assaulted in Henderson

1 min read

Waitakere CIB detectives are applauding the efforts of a 17 year old teenager and his 22 x year old brother in law for assisting police to locate a violent offender after he attacked an elderly woman in her Henderson home.

Police say they were called to an address in Tudor Road Henderson at about 1.30am on Saturday 14 October 2006 after they received reports that there was an intruder at the property.

Police say a 24 year old male entered the bedroom of an 81 year old female and for more than half an hour sexually assaulted her in her own home.

After the offender departed, the elderly victim went to the front door of her house with a flashlight. A 17 x year old youth who lives in the house next to the elderly victim, saw the light and immediately went to establish if she was in difficulty.

After obtaining a description from the victim the youth established that the offender was still in the locality. Together with his brother in law they located the attacker and then brought him back to the scene. Police arrived soon after.

Police say they applaud the actions of the youth and his brother in law. The pair's initiative was instrumental in this offender being apprehended and arrested. The elderly victim is also pleased at the result.

A 24 year old man is now in police custody and he will appear in the Waitakere District Court tomorrow on indecent assault, attempted sexual violation, and burglary charges.

Police say the 81-year old victim remained calm and displayed remarkable resilience during her ordeal. She is now being assisted in her recovery by her family and friends.
