Two men and a woman robbed the Shell Service Station on Moonshine Road, Upper Hutt, at 10.15pm last night.
Detective Constable Corey Price, Upper Hutt CIB, said the three offenders wore dark clothing and concealed their faces.
"One of the men had a large knife which he used to confront the terrified service station attendant," Detective Constable Price said. "The attendant was shaken but unhurt and the trio ran off with an undisclosed sum of money, cigarettes and tobacco."
Detective Constable Price said the man armed with the knife is described as a Polynesian, approximately 6ft tall, solidly built and aged about 25 years. The second man, and the woman, are both shorter, of medium build and in their late teens to early twenties.
Police say the offenders ran to a grey coloured sedan style motor car which had been parked on nearby Holdsworth Avenue.
"We're seeking any information about this robbery including sightings of the trio, or the grey car near the service station area around the time of the robbery," Detective Price said.
As the offenders were leaving the service station a man driving a Maroon coloured car pulled in. It's believed he witnessed the robbery. "We encourage this man to contact us at Upper Hutt Police, along with any else who can help with information about the robbery."
