North Shore's modern, purpose built, policing facility, will be officially opened by Police Minister Hon. Annette King MP, in Mairangi Bay this morning.
There are 215 staff already permanently based in the new Policing Centre, which is providing a wide range of quality police services 24/7, for over 220,00 residents now living on North Shore.
General duties officers, CIB, Youth Aid, Prosecutions staff, are among the various Police groups who share the new complex with established partnership agencies such as Victim Support, Child, Youth and Family, and Truancy Services.
North Shore Police Area Commander, Inspector Les Paterson says, "The general public, local residents, and the wider cultural community, are already seeing significant benefits in terms of our new policing services, and the overall operational effectiveness the new facility provides."
"Fully sophisticated, modern policing resources are installed and available within the complex. Police are moving ahead strongly via a community and citizen focus to deliver a range of community services the public actually want. The public expects police to deliver," he said.
"Our theme this year is to sincerely endeavour to meet every reasonable expectation of the North Shore community. We are committed to this achievement," the Area Commander said.
"There is a 30 year history to policing already firmly established on the North Shore. It was on 23 September 1976 when Takapuna Police Station first opened. This new facility meets the needs of the North Shore Community in the 21st Century."
"There is greater staff interaction in the new surroundings, the gains and efficiencies are realised by the fact that staff also fully appreciate they're now located in a purpose built complex."
"Staff are pleased that the Minister will join us to formally open the new NSPC, and they are equally enthusiastic that they will have a chance to meet with their Commissioner while he is among us," Inspector Paterson said.
An estimated 150 guests will witness the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the Minister. Senior Police Management, Mayors, MP's, local dignitaries, Kaumatua and construction staff will be present. The ceremony will commence after 10.30am today, Thursday 7 September '06.
