1 min read

Hamilton Police responding to a collision between a fleeing driver's car and a patrol car that left one of their colleagues seriously injured are appreciative of the several members of the public who rushed to the injured officers' aid.

Waikato Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said an off duty nurse, an off duty fireman and several other members of the public rushed to assist stricken Police staff and that assistance was greatly appreciated.

"During the stress of the moment acts like those of these Good Samaritans can often be over looked but a consensus from the staff involved was that their actions were worthy of recognition and we wanted to go on the record acknowledging this.

"The injured officer is awaiting surgery in Waikato Hospital at this time and is with members of his family and is in good spirits given the extent of his injuries."

The occupants of the stolen car that drove into the patrol car are currently being interviewed by Police and it is yet to be determined what charges will be laid.
