Wellington Police are appealing for witnesses to a stabbing which has left a 22-year-old man in Wellington Hospital with possible spinal injuries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, Wellington CIB, said the man was with three friends on the forecourt of BP Roadmaster, corner of Taranaki and Wakefield Streets, about 1.40am today when they got into a verbal altercation with another group of about four people.
"There was a fight and the 22-year-old male suffered a single stab wound to his back," Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter said. "The injury is not considered to be life threatening but there are concerns about possible spinal damage."
The group involved in the confrontation then left the scene in a white four-door sedan.
Police want to find the occupants of this car, and speak with them and any other people who may have witnessed the incident on the station forecourt.
"There were a lot of people in and around the forecourt, both in cars and on foot," Detective Senior Sergeant Cotter said. "We'd like people who witnessed the assault, or who can tell us who was involved to contact us as soon as possible."
