The need to get home ahead of a curfew was the reason an intoxicated woman gave to Police as to why she found herself trapped in a Hamilton school early this morning.
Sergeant Phil Ruddell said officers were called to the suburb of Enderley about 2.20am after a woman reported someone trying the locked back door of her home.
"There were then reports of smashing glass at the next door school and officers arrived to find a woman who had somehow managed to gain entry into the school but was then unable to get out due to the effective fencing.
"The 35-year-old woman appeared to have been drinking for some time and said she was in the school grounds trying to take a short cut to get home because she was on home detention, she was somewhat confused when officers pointed out her curfew began at 7pm and it was now 2.40am."
The woman was taken back to the Hamilton Central Police Station for detoxification and will be interviewed later this morning.
