Christchurch Police have laid further charges against the two men already charged in connection with the incident involving two police officers and a police dog being shot in the city on 13 July 2010.
Acting Detective Inspector David Long says the additional charges follow after the completion of the scene examination at the address where the incident took place and as the result of having now spoken with all witnesses in connection with the inquiry.
Steven Paul SMITH will be appearing in the Christchurch District Court at 2.15 p.m. today where he will face charges in relation to a number of firearms located at his address and in connection with a cannabis cultivation operation that was also found at the address that he shared with his brother.
Some of the new charges now faced by Steven SMITH have been jointly laid against his brother Christopher Graeme SMITH.
Christopher SMITH is to reappear in the Christchurch District Court on 28 July 2010. On this date he will face additional charges of using a firearm against a police officer, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of cannabis.
Six firearms have been seized by Police in connection with this matter. Inquiries are ongoing in an effort to establish how the men charged came to be in possession of the firearms.
