Auckland City Police are investigating the aggravated robbery of an ADT security guard who was leaving a Queen St BNZ bank minutes before 5pm yesterday.
The guard was coming out of a lift on the ground floor of the bank when he was confronted by a man with what appeared to have been a sawn off shotgun and who demanded money.
The guard handed over the money - more than $50,000 - and the offender ran outside to a waiting getaway vehicle which was a dark blue early 90s Holden Commodore station wagon with a roof rack on it.
Police have secured surveillance footage of the vehicle being driven off.
Witnesses describe the two offenders as male Polynesian or Maori, both in their early to mid 30s, both of medium build and standing 5'10" and 6' tall respectively.
One of the offenders was wearing a checked or striped light-coloured, long-sleeved, buttoned shirt. The guard, whose colleague in the security van was unaware of the situation unfolding in the bank, was not injured.
Police would like to hear from anyone who has information about the offenders, the getaway vehicle or anything to do with the robbery.
Information should go to Detective Constable Iain Chapman on 09 302 6454.
