An 18-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries following an assault in Foxton last night.
Police were called around 10.30pm to reports of an incident outside an address in Park Street, Foxton.
Early indications are that two male occupants from a house in Park Street were confronted by one male offender. One of the two being confronted managed to get away unharmed but the other was struck with a weapon. There is some suggestion that the weapon was a tomahawk but that is currently unconfirmed.
Police have been unable to speak to the victim at this stage who is in Palmerston North Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Police are speaking to the other man confronted and are making other enquiries to try to identify and locate the other offender. The scene at Park Road is currently cordoned off and subject to a forensic examination.
The circumstances that led to the attack are unknown at this stage.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Park Road area last night or has any other information that is relevant to this investigation.
