Christchurch hit and run driver urged to contact police

Christchurch South Police are appealing to the driver of a vehicle involved in yesterday morning's fatal hit and run in Prebbleton to contact police.

Mrs Rochelle Margaret Roozen, aged 41, a mother of two young children and secondary teacher at Burnside High, was fatally injured while cycling to work.

Acting Detective Sergeant Michael Ford, Christchurch South Police, said the hit and run happened between 7am and 7.15am yesterday at the intersection of Springs Road and Marshs Road, Prebbleton.

"I've no doubt that the driver must be aware of hitting a cyclist," Acting Detective Sergeant Ford said. "We're appealing to that person to do the right thing and contact police."

He said several motorists stopped at the crash scene soon after it happened and went to the cyclist's assistance. "Tragically however Mrs Roozen's injuries were fatal.

She regularly biked to and from home to work.

Police are still in the process of talking with witnesses. However they need more information about the vehicle and driver involved. It was wet and dark at the time at the time of the crash.
