Dunedin International Airport Reopens

1 min read

Dunedin International Airport has reopened after what appeared to be an improvised explosive device, found in a downstairs toilet facility, turned out to be a hoax.

Army bomb experts neutralised the device and police have conducted a sweep of the terminal. The sweep found nothing suspicious except wires in a rubbish bin in the main terminal. The significance of these is yet to be determined.

The scene where the hoax device was found has been secured and the airport is now open again.

Police Incident Controller, Inspector Alastair Dickie, thanked the public for their cooperation and understanding through the incident.

People affected by the closure of Dunedin Airport and disruption to flights are asked to check with Air New Zealand for flight information.
