A 19 year old male was charged under the Arms Act 1983 last night with presenting a toy plastic handgun in circumstances which were likely to lead to belief that it was a pistol.
About 8.30 last night a male passenger in a vehicle driving on Papanui Road, Christchurch was seen pointing and firing what looked like a handgun. The driver of another vehicle contacted police.
The car was stopped and searched.
Sergeant Steve King says that in a situation like this you will not be warned, "We'll arrest you for presenting an imitation firearm," he says.
