To be attributed to Inspector Trevor Beggs, Road Policing Manager, Waitemata Police   A 22 year-old man will appear in the Waitakere District Court tomorrow, charged with dangerous driving and breach of bail, following a crash today in West Auckland.

At approximately 12:13pm a marked police vehicle was travelling South on Edmonton Road, Henderson.

The patrol car spotted a Nissan Primera travelling north at an excessive speed.

As the Primera drew closer, the patrol car activated it’s lights and sirens.

The Primera carried on past and the patrol car conducted a u-turn.

The turn was conducted at slow speed due to the heavy nature of traffic.

The patrol car lost sight of the vehicle as it was conducting it’s u-turn and officers then began a search for it.

A short time later , the patrol car came across a 5-car collision on Central Park Drive.

The officers approached the driver of the Primera who was standing up inside the vehicle.

The driver stated that he was ok apart from a shoulder dislocation which was an existing injury and had not been a result of the crash.

He stated he had not seen the patrol car at any stage and that he was running late for a funeral.

The driver was taken to Northshore hospital to have his shoulder checked and was arrested for Dangerous Driving and Breach of Bail. He will appear in the Waitakere District Court tomorrow morning

The female driver of one of the other vehicles involved was also taken to hospital for a check and apart from a small cut to the head, was fortunately not seriously injured.
