1 min read

A 17 year-old Onehunga man appeared in the Auckland District Court today charged with common assault after a 21 year-old was stabbed several times in Mays Rd, Onehunga, shortly before 6am on Sunday, November 6.

The alleged offender, Michael Joseph Siale, unemployed, has been remanded in custody to reappear on November 11. He and the victim are members of rival groups in the suburb.

The victim is in Auckland Hospital where he's said to be in a critical but stable condition.

People attending the wounded man have told Police he described two men, before he passed out, who attacked him.

"The other person was described as a Polynesian in his late teens or early 20s," Detective Sergeant Andrew Berry of the Glen Innes CIB said.

"He also managed to describe a car - a white Mitsubishi Galant - that he believed was connected to the attack. Obviously we'd like to hear from anyone who saw anything of interest to us in Mays Rd early on Sunday morning."

Police believe the young man was stabbed with a knife near the front door of a private residence before collapsing, but no weapon has been recovered. The occupants of the property were not known to the victim but previous occupants had been.

People with information should call the Glen Innes CIB on 09 524 1926.
