"A 1988 Nissan 4WD Safari motor vehicle*, black/silver in colour was stolen recently from Hokio Beach in Levin, an area Michael Scott Wallace was last known to be.
The registration number is XO9268.
"We have reason to believe Mr Wallace may have access to this vehicle says Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward, head of Operation Lucy, the investigation into the murder of 28 year old hitch hiker, Birgit Brauer.
"It is vital if anyone sees this vehicle and/or Mr Wallace, to please contact their local police immediately.
"The phones still continue to run hot; last night we took lots of calls from right around the country. There have been sightings in the South Island, Wellington, Napier, and Auckland. We are prioritising the information received and are working towards verifying the different sightings.
"We have received around 300 calls to date."
The team are continuing to sort through information received from the various area canvases in Scott's Ferry and Tangimoana and the greater Horowhenua area.
"Great efforts are being made by police to locate Michael Scott Wallace, and we do appreciate the continued support from both from the public and the media.
"I would like to re-emphasize that Mr Wallace, could be anywhere in New Zealand, as he is transient by nature. His description is:
* "Michael Scott Wallace is 44 years of age.
* He is a male Maori, but is sometimes mistaken for a Caucasian.
* He is of slim to medium build, and is about 180cm tall [5' 9"].
* He was last seen with dark curly hair, of collar length."
Police are still interested in the whereabouts of the camera, a Canon model and also in
sightings of the Toyota Hilux between September 24 and September 26 when it was last sighted in Tangimoana and abandoned in the Ohau River.
