Waikato Police are today working to identify the body of a driver killed in a collision between a truck and a car near Matamata overnight.
District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said the crash happened on SH27 about 9pm.
"The Serious Crash Unit is still investigating exactly what happened but initial indications are a northbound Toyota car has crossed the centreline on a left hand bend into the path of an oncoming southbound articulated truck killing the driver of the car.
"The truck driver was shaken but unhurt in the crash, no further details are available in relation to the identity of the driver at this time," said Mr Tooman.
Last night's crash brings the Waikato District's road toll to 29 compared to 34 for the same period last year.
