Take it 'Ezy' on the roads

1 min read

A female shop worker is currently undergoing a medical examination after being injured when a car crashed through a shop window in North Hamilton this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 9.25am after reports a car had crashed through the front window of the Video Ezy store in the Rototuna.

Initial indications on the cause of the crash are that as the 24-year-old female driver pulled into a car park she was trying to put her sandal on and when pushing her foot in she depressed the car's accelerator, propelling it into the store.

Crashing through the window the car struck a shop counter injuring the 33-year-old shop assistant.

The driver of the car was shaken but unhurt while the shop assistant suffered what appears to be a shoulder injury which is currently being examined.

Firefighters were called to the scene to carry out an assessment of the building's structural integrity before the vehicle was removed.

Waikato Police are taking this opportunity to remind drivers that when they are behind the wheel of a motor vehicle their focus should be on controlling that vehicle, not divided by texting, using cell phones or- trying to slip on footwear.

Inquiries into the crash are continuing.
