At about 6pm tonight Dunedin police arrested 2 male Maori, aged 49 and 50 following a report of two cars being driven dangerously on SH1 in the Palmerston area.
The vehicles were reported as heading South driving well in excess of the speed limit and having passed several cars on double yellow lines.
The vehicles being driven in such a unsafe manner were a 2008 Holden Comodore Clubsport coloured Black carrying 5 persons and the other a 2000 Holden Commodore Berlina coloured Blue also carrying 5 persons.
Police are seeking witnesses to this or any further offending by these two drivers which were returning to Dunedin together from Christchurch. Witnesses to any incidents involving these vehicles are asked to contact Dunedin Police on 03 471 4800. Constable Mark Tuten is officer in charge of this matter and any information can be passed to staff for his attention.
Police take this type of driving as a very serious risk to all road users and encourage members of the public to report any dangerous driving immediatley on *555.
